Distillerie de Genievre Claeyssens La Wambrechies

La Wambrechies is a blonde beer with a special ingredient - Dutch gin! A speciality of Benelux and Northern France, Genever or Dutch gin is a liquor made from cereals (wheat, rye, malted barley, etc.) and flavoured with juniper berries. La Wambrechies shows orange and slightly cloudy in the glass due to the yeast deposits resulting from the bottle conditioning process. It takes on a delicate but stable and relatively long-lasting head. This Northern beer develops a nose of sweet but pronounced aromas, quite reminiscent of Genever. These core aromas lie at the heart of a bouquet of strong floral fragrances, very pleasant in the nose. On the palate, Wambrechies reveals a range of wonderful and very well-balanced flavours. Initially fairly dry in the mouth with the alcohol not much in evidence, the floral hoppy flavours soon emerge, with a bitterness that grows stronger but not too aggressive. Malts are also detectable and give harmony to the finish with mild, honeyed, sugary flavours which counter the initial dry impression and the hoppy flavours. The finish is deliciously harmonious - and when you finish this one, it’s time to start the next!
